Storia 2019, a Smooth Carignan from Provence

I just got back from my trip to Italy, in the Piedmont region, where I visited several wineries. I’ll be writing a series of blog posts about those visits, one post per winery.

But first, the non Italian wine review I promised. I opened this bottle just before leaving for my holiday. I present to you: Storia 2019, a Carignan-based wine from Provence from Domaine Gavoty.

The estate produces exclusively organic wines, guided by the philosophy that by respecting nature, nature will give back in the form of better wine.

This bottle was a gift from my father-in-law, who is a serious wine enthusiast, arguably even more so than I am. He has an impressive cellar and even holds a sommelier degree. It’s not his profession, but he decided to pursue the training in evening school and successfully completed it. Quite the achievement... but I digress.

The 2019 Storia is a powerful wine, yet very smooth on the palate. On the nose: black fruit, spices, and a hint of violet.

I personally rated it 4.2 out of 5. I try to align my internal scoring with Vivino, and the same scale is used on wineventory.net: a 5-point system with one decimal precision.

It pairs well with steak, lamb, or veal, but thanks to its smoothness, it can also be enjoyed on its own. It can be kept for a few more years, but for me this style of wine is at its best right now.
